We switched our site plus five sites we host to this company after we just couldn’t take yet another price increase from our old host, not to mention that they moved us to shared IPs, at $20 per site per month!. Anyway, the thought was to get out from under that host and use a cheap host temporarily until we could spare the time to set up our in-house server to host our sites. Hostdepartment.com was sort of selected almost at random, but turned out to be a good deal. The support is via chat only, but they do an okay job of getting from point A to B, esepcially for the money – it’s very, very cheap! We use a site monitor service that sends an e-mail when the site goes down and we haven’t had but one alert in a year. That’s better than our old $100 a month host for 1/20th the cost. Plus, once the support crew (they don’t really answer trouble tix – best to stick to chat) directs one to the documentation, they’re not needed lest you forget a password, and they’re good with that. So, there you go: verry cheap, does the job, what more could you want, if you’re wearing your reality check hat, that is. If you need hand-holding, on-shore customer support and the rest, better open your wallet and not complain, would be my advice. And no, we have nothing to do with this host other than we’re a paid customer. There you go.

HostDepartment are terrible. In just under one month with them my site has had an average uptime of 65.6%. So far:

1) 2 server failures (each last 12 hours).

2) Constant database server overloading, resulting in site being inaccessible.

3) HostDepartment maintenance scripts overwriting my files without warning.

4) My IP being changed without me being told (meaning my DNS entries were inaccurate for 12 hours).

Support is OK and quick for easy-to-fix problems, but terrible when things matter: during server failures or when handling serious problems. I’ve had to contact support almost once every 3 days.

I have been with hostdepartment.com for over a year now, and I can tell you that this company is the best one for you in terms of costs, support and reliability. The tech supports are superb with the lowest costs available on the net. Believe me when I tell you that there are no other web hosting companies with the level of support and the prices as hostdepartment.com.

Worst hosting ever, their SQL server was down all the time, i was with them for only 2 weeks and lost lot of my customers because of their sql server downtime, Their support and management sucks, There was n’t even a single DAY that my site was not down. They did not even try to address my issue, and their support told me that there is not a single server on the internet that is up all the time.Their sql server used to be up once in a while for a change.

I switched with hostdepartment.com a month ago and that was the worst mistake I ever made. SQL Server constantly goes down 10 or more times a day and no one seems to monitor the servers. They are only aware of the outage when you contact them and their solution is to reboot the server. When asked for when they will provide a permanent solution to the problem, they have say we just need to deal with it until management resolves this issue. Aweful and truly frustrating!

Opened up a reseller account about a month ago and had nothing but problems with them. All my sites are down at least 10 times a day and no one seems to monitor these servers. They only know about their server being out when you contact them on their Live chat. And the only solution they have is to reboot their server. I’ve contacted support and sent several e-mail to the manager asking when they will have a permanent fix to these problems and I have never got any response. Worst company I’ve ever had to deal with. Save yourself the headache and avoid this company like the plague! Their 99.9% guarantee is a total joke. My sites are up 50% of the time and they won’t compensate for all these outages. AAAaarrrgggh!

They cannot manage this company anymore and would do many people/businesses a favor by closing down and starting afresh.

Over the course of a few years, HD turned from AMAZING to INCREDIBLY CRAPPY.

I have never been so dissatisfied with any sort of hosting in my LIFE. I am trying to transfer domains, and their site they use to “manage” domains doesn’t recognize me as the owner of any of their domains, and it tries to get me to convert my domain to a smart domain (for 12.95) just to get the stupid EPP code to transfer!

They are crap, and they con you. They’ve moved all their support to India, so they have no clue on to what is going on.

My server was down 90% of the time (even though they have their “99% uptime guarantee”), and when I called them telling them both my computer AND my friend’s computer (in the Netherlands, on the other side of the planet) were unable to get to the page, they called it a COINCIDENCE, and that it was a problem on our ends.

The people on here who say that Host Department is great have obviously not been there recently (the last year). I have had problems with their service since the beginning and they always have some lame excuse that any good hosting company would have not even tried to give me.

Their servers have been down for the last 4 days and the excuses are wearing thin….if you can even get them to answer emails, support tickets, their live chat, or the phone.

Before that the servers were painfully slow for about a week before they went down.

Their support and sales are overseas and not located in the same location as their servers. I have no idea who actually works on them but whoever they are they have NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE DOING.

At this point, I just want my sites, databases, and money back.

Whatever you do, do not host with host department. I guarantee you will be unhappy once you do.

HostDepartment is terrible, and now that yet again their servers have been down for almost two weeks there is always 60+ people in their live chat support and you will not get support unless you sit on the chat for two days waiting for a response.
It’s absolutely rediculous, BUT I have not yet found anyone who offers the services they offer for such a low cost.
Can anyone recommend a hosting service that offers the same services (ex: hosting multiple domains, unlimited space/bandwidth) for the same costs, but greater up-time??

Host Department realy sucks!! i bought 3 yeras of e-commerce service with them and everything was more or less until all my sites fall down since 25 days and no response from no one, they realy realy realy suck..I do not have ftp access either….. Moth.. F…kers—-does someone know how to point from the control panel my domain names to other hosting provider??? thanks

This company started out great, then went downhill fast. Downtime increased enough to affect my business. They would post message that the system would return in a few hours, and it could take several days. They always had an excuse for the down time. I switched to someone else in Nov 2009 after 4 days of no service. Just now, 3/5/10, I went to cancel the recurring billing, and again, their control panel had an error due to a recent system upgrade and was unavailable. I had to use online chat in order to cancel before the recurring billing date. Extremely frustrating. I don’t know if they changed ownership, or management, or what, but I cannot recommend this company to anybody.

Opened up a Reseller account in 2006.
We cancelled service in 2010. After many years of agony in dealing with service going down, customers complaining, we transferred up to Canada, where we are, to have closer access to our rip off artists. Turned out the Canadian service was genuine as I am confident many US suppliers are too. So, our domain was still with them. We last renewed it in 2010 of August. Yesterday our DNR went down as the renew date was of Aug 28th. I have spent the last two days, yet again, with these idiots trying to get my business website and emails active again. When we review the time invested in customer support and tech support it adds up to over six weeks on the phone and in email correspondence since 2006. That on it’s own merit is absolutely unacceptable. Who compensates us for our lost time on these issues? No one. Then I finally get in touch with the Legal Department only to be told yet again that it will take an additional 24 hours to get this service back to the point where I can at least renew the domain. Furthermore, they have the domain locked so that we can’t transfer it to our current service provider. Is this even legal? I absolutely despise Host Department and everything they do. For them to do this to a business account is beyond me. How would they survive if someone locked their domain and email up on them for 2 full days of business? But because they deal in volume en masse they could care a less about some idiot Canadian who could never approach them and deal with them face to face. I strongly urge anyone to stay away from this company 100%. Pay the extra $5 per month for a service that has reputable clients and will not fail you if you need a reminder that something is about to expire. We didn’t even get a courtesy email or anything, just BAM, no service. It has costs us about $1K in 24 hours and will be about the same for yet another day. Customers and sales staff are beside themselves and customers are thinking we are out of business because today customers go online before they phone you and if your not online they assume your out of business and most don’t bother to call. Again, STAY AWAY FROM HOST DEPARTMENT. They will cost you customers and not blink an eye over it. Look at this way, to verify who we are we had to send our Articles of Incorporation to the floor manager. We did that. He left for home and unless I had bothered to contact them yet again no one would have even bothered in telling us what was going on. Now how is that “Excellent Customer Service”? It isn’t, it is nothing short of saying “who cares about what you want, we will deal with you when we are ready or not at all!”

This is the worst mistake of my life! Highly incompetent people. Support people delete your tickets in which you demand explanation. One named “Bob Mackenzie”, the has deleted my support account, then one day he deleted my ticket. Incompetent son of a b**ch.

The service goes down just like that… “You don’t have permissions to view this”… And when you email them… got a reply after 24 fu*king hours…. “We’re looking into the issue and will get back to you soon”…. bloody hell!!!

Windows hosting DOES NOT WORK

FTP on windows hosting does not work

active FTP does not work if you are connected via local network using 192.. IP.

Billing notifications does not work

your account gets suspended and if you are a reseller all your clients accounts get suspended WITHOUT NOTICE!!!

Username get reset every few weeks just like that!!!!!!!

Databases / phpmyadmin does not want to fu*king load
