I have tried 3 other web host providers, none of which even came close to what dreamhost provides at the price. The only other host that comes close that I haven’t used, but read about, is lunarpages. If you’re looking for a well maintained professional hosting provider, go dreamhost. If you’re looking for the very very best for your business, I have heard pair.com is excellent but expensive.

Pretentious, claim on uptime doesn’t match their actual record, customer service blames all server problems on user’s ISP, and when the servers go down they go down completely and remain that way for hours or days. This is the last mistake I will ever make with them.

Fantastic host! Excellent service (especially considering the price). Have yet to experience ANY problems (100% uptime, so far….)

My experience with Dreamhost was positive at first. Although their admin control panel was impossible to navigate, they offered way more bandwidth than anyone else for a good price. But then the outages started. It seems like they really, really oversold their server space – my site is a popular forum, with 24/7 traffic. They said it crashed the server, but the evidence is sketchy. They suspended my account, locking out my users, and told me to fix it. But didn’t tell me what to fix.

When I updated the software I was using to something faster, I had to practically beg them to turn me back on just to test it! All was well, and they left me alone. A month later, they shut me down again WITHOUT WARNING and demanded I get a dedicated server for $100/month – 10 times what I was paying already. Meanwhile, they wouldn’t let me access my own database and files to move them to a better host! It took legal threats from both me and my new hosting company (run by a friend) to get them to free my files.

Oh, and while my files were locked up and NO ONE was using my site, their stats said I was using 14% of the processing power of the server. WTF? So now I’ve got 2,000 angry users on my back, a mess of files to salvage, and it turns out Dreamhost was wrong about the whole overload thing. They were very unprofessional about it.

Their support system is terrible – amateurish and vague. Everything was running fine until they tried to “improve” it. Their subsequent “help” kept making things worse. They’re a good deal if you have a quiet, HTML-only site with no traffic, but if you have anything with php or MySQL or such, stay away!

First of all, if anyone decides to use dreamhost, use the promo code “SPRING” for a hidden discount.

I have been incredibly impressed with my experience at dreamhost. I’ve been using them for quite a while for both my personal site and as the host for a business web page I recently created. I have had no problems with either. There servers are incredibly solid and always fast, and I have yet to notice downtime. My contact with customer service has been prompt and positive. I would recommend them to anyone!

Had a great experience with them. Would recommend them highly for shared hosting.

We’ve been really pleased with Dreamhost and have been with them for several years for both personal and business hosting. Nice people, very funny monthly newsletter that’s actually worth reading, and excellent service. It’s got a lot of extras if you know what you’re doing, but the panel system is easy for those who don’t know beans. Also the one-click installs of things like Joomla, oscommerce and WordPress are helpful.

Also, full disclosure, you can create your own codes to offer referral discounts for signing up new customers (ours is “SnapeKitten”).
